From pixels to fabric pieces

A photograph and a practical pattern describe the same subject in different ways

A photograph uses thousands of color changes to describe light, texture and depth. Kinusaiga needs a smaller number of enclosed shapes. Each one must be large enough to handle and clear enough to follow when the grooves are cut into the board.

The generator first separates the subject from a simple background where possible. It then groups similar colors while protecting important contrast. Connected regions become numbered pattern pieces. Small fragments are cleaned up and large areas are checked at the physical size you selected.

This is why the result looks simpler than the photograph. The missing texture is not always a loss. Fabric can bring that richness back through weave, print and direction without forcing every change into another tiny piece.

Choose a useful source

The best photo is not always the most beautiful photo

A strong source has one clear subject, a readable silhouette and visible contrast between neighboring parts. A plain background helps because it gives the important shapes more room in the pattern.

Images with many overlapping objects, soft fur, distant faces or dozens of small highlights can still work, but they usually need more editing. Start with a close crop before increasing the number of colors or contour detail.

What automation can and cannot decide

A useful first pattern should reduce work without hiding the difficult decisions

The automatic result chooses a sensible level of detail and checks whether regions are too small or narrow at the selected print size. For many clear illustrations and simple photographs this gives you a strong starting point immediately.

No technical check can promise that every fabric will behave the same way. Stretch, thickness and grain still matter. Print the pattern at the intended size and test the most difficult curve or narrow section on a board offcut before beginning the final piece.

Begin with the automatic result

Upload your image, choose the paper size and inspect the color preview before changing anything. Optional controls are most useful when you can name the exact problem you want to correct.

Photo to Kinusaiga pattern FAQ

Can I turn any photo into a Kinusaiga pattern

Clear subjects with strong shapes produce the most useful result. Busy backgrounds, very soft edges and many tiny details may need a closer crop or a simpler source image.

Does my photo leave my device

No. The image is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to a remote image service.

What does the finished download contain

The printable PDF contains the pattern prepared for your selected paper size. The result also includes color areas and numbered pieces that help you plan the fabric placement.

Which paper sizes can I use

The simple generator prepares a single page pattern for A4, A5 or A6. The structure stays the same when you change the paper size.

Which image files are supported

You can use PNG, JPEG or WebP files up to 20 MB.
